Colombian Forward in Line for New Deal at Anfield
Luis Díaz is expected to begin contract extension talks with Liverpool at the end of the current campaign, following an impressive season that helped the club secure their 20th top-flight title.
The Colombian international marked his 100th Premier League appearance by scoring Liverpool’s opening goal in their emphatic 5-1 win over Tottenham last Sunday. The result not only confirmed Liverpool as champions but capped off a season in which Díaz delivered 12 goals and 5 assists across all competitions.

Diaz Under Contract Until 2027, but Extension Looms
Although Díaz’s current deal runs until 2027, Liverpool are keen to reward his form and fend off outside interest. Reports have linked the 28-year-old with both Barcelona and clubs in the Saudi Pro League, but sources close to the club suggest an agreement in principle is expected before pre-season.
Since joining from Porto in January 2022 for an initial £37 million, Díaz has won the Premier League, FA Cup, and two EFL Cups with the Reds. He also boasts domestic titles from his time at FC Porto and in Colombia.
Liverpool’s Frontline Evolution Continues
Díaz has frequently operated out of position this season as a central striker, stepping in amid injuries and squad reshuffles. Despite not being a natural number 9, he’s contributed significantly to Arne Slot’s fluid attack. Only Mohamed Salah has created more chances for Liverpool in the league this season.

With uncertainty still surrounding the long-term roles of Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold, securing Díaz’s future is seen as a key priority. Club insiders suggest that after losing leverage in recent high-profile negotiations, Liverpool are determined to act early this time.
What Comes Next?
Liverpool face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge this Sunday (kick-off 4:30 PM BST) in their penultimate match of the season. Díaz is expected to feature again as the Reds look to close out the campaign on a high before shifting focus to contract renewals and the summer transfer window.
